Director, Payer Marketing

Summary:

Dermira’s product pipeline includes three Phase 3 product candidates that could have a profound impact on the lives of patients: glycopyrronium tosylate (formerly DRM04), in development for the treatment of primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating); CIMZIA® (certolizumab pegol), in development in collaboration with UCB Pharma S.A. for the treatment of moderate-to-severe chronic plaque psoriasis; and olumacostat glasaretil (formerly DRM01), in development for the treatment of acne vulgaris.

Position Purpose
To develop and execute a comprehensive payer coverage and provider reimbursement strategy through effective account management, advocacy development, and provider reimbursement support. Develop strategic business relationships with payers while building and enhancing strategic partnerships with policy makers, advocates, key opinion leaders and disease-oriented organizations at the regional and local level. Ensure patient access to drug in a highly competitive and visible space while cultivating relationships with Medical Directors and key medical policy/claims staff. Deliver all relevant information to payer decision makers and develop relationships with local advocates, state physician societies and patient organizations. Work closely with Marketing, Medical Affairs and Sales to educate and support reimbursement and access initiatives. This position reports to the Vice President, Market Access.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute plan for rapid payer coverage and timely reimbursement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Medical Directors, Medical Policy Staff,and Key Opinion Leaders to ensure access to
  • Recommend payer strategy, pricing and reimbursement and value proposition
  • Create and maintain expertise in payer regulations
  • Lead account management efforts and regional advocacy development to ensure appropriate coverage and reimbursement.
  • Assist in securing timely and widespread reimbursement/coverage with Commercial Payers and Managed Medicaid plans.
  • Provide direct reimbursement support and education to include all payer types.
  • Manage organizational awareness of environmental changes and implications that payers will increasingly have in the market.
  • Lead successful coordination of launch strategies across all Payer types to ensure seamless coverage and appropriate reimbursement at the patient and provider level.
  • Build proactive relationships with advocates to ensure access to drug within all payer types and appropriate settings of care.
  • Provide direct reimbursement policy and coding support to account management and sales teams.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs, HEOR and Marketing to develop and integrated brand access plan.
  • Assist in the development of launch (pre and post) strategy/communication and oversee the development of reimbursement support materials with the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team.
  • Coordinate and lead alliance-building activities and strategies with internal stakeholders.
  • Engage in the development of internal reimbursement training as well as the development of provider reimbursement support materials.
  • Extensive travel is required.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree required in related area with preference for an advanced degree in a related field
  • Requires at least 10 years of relevant experience, including management of drugs/biologics paid under Medicare (Part A & B) and proven account management success
  • Experience building and executing a reimbursement strategy as well as the management of provider reimbursement support services in complex reimbursement policy environments
  • Strong understanding of the payer/reimbursement landscape and the ability to be flexible and creative in an ever-changing payer environment
  • Inherent focus on meeting the needs of patients, as identified from KOLs, Marketing, and Patient Value
  • Demonstrated strategic and critical thinking skills and documented history of achieving results
  • Strong leadership qualities, demonstrating ability to initiate and lead key projects
  • History of innovative thinking and documented examples of challenging the status quo
  • Extensive understanding of healthcare policy and the impact that changes could have on customers and competitive products
  • Knowledge of Medicare coverage, coding and policy development and global management of Commercial Payers and State Medicaid agencies
  • Knowledge and understanding of health economics
  • Experience working with pharmaceutical partner and/or managing across complex organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage team of external consultants
  • Must have superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Candidate must have demonstrated adaptability, innovation and a strong sense of teamwork in prior positions
